Help Keep Tabs On The Kids With Two Way Radios
What is so cool about two way radios? I had no idea how useful they were until about a year ago. My son was riding his bike around the block and fell and sprained his ankle.
It was right before dark and all the other kids in the neighborhood had just gone home. He was on his way back home and ran into a huge rock next to the sidewalk, fell off his bike and fell sideways (feet first) into the pavement.
The sad part was the no one was around, so he just lay there crying, helpless for over almost an hour until a driver passing by saw him lying there! My son told the driver where we lived and they came to get us, and we came to get him to bring him to the hospital.
I really hope and pray this never happens to you. But I must tell you now how two way radios come into play. First of all, let me tell you that my son has healed up just fine. But we have come up with a solution to prevent any future delays if he ever needs us.
And no, it’s not a cell phone!
It’s a two way radio. We have a two way radio set, with two units, one for my son to keep with him when he goes outside, and one to keep at the house. He uses the radio to check in, and we use it to tell him when dinner is ready or when to come home.
What is really important here is that now we don’t have to worry that something could happen to him and we would have no idea where he was, and he would have no way to tell us. This way, he can tell us exactly where he is if he ever gets hurt and needs us to come get him.
The other thing that is nice is that he can stay at a neighbor’s house even after it starts getting dark out, to play inside, and we can come and get him when it’s time to come home. All he has to do is push the button on his two way radio and we can talk immediately.
Another thing that’s great is as follows. Let’s say that our son is down at one end of the block and gets invited in to his friend’s house to play video games (kind of like in the example just mentioned). If he had no prior plans to do so, he would have had no way to tell us except to ride his bike home and ask. Until now! Now, he can just radio home and ask us on the two way radio set!
We bought another set for my mother who lives two doors down from us. She is elderly and so we have kept this two way radio with her on her electric wheelchair. Now, whenever she needs help with something, she can radio to us.
Two way radios are not just invaluable; to us, they are worth their weight in gold.
