My Thoughts On Affiliate vs Traditional Marketing

Affiliate vs. Traditional marketing? What are the differences and is one better than the other as far as making money? What other things should you look into before starting your online business?

Let me start by saying that I feel the most important issue that you should look at before getting involved with an internet based business is the pay plan. Why, well simply put you can eliminate a lot of “scams” if you pay attention to what and how they say they will pay you. Even though this is the internet and making money can be easier than working in a shop or in an office the golden rule still applies “ If something seems to good to be true, it probably is” don’t fall for these offers or there is a good chance that you will lose whatever you put into it. The kind of pay plan that I myself really like would be the residual pay plan, you may not make as much on the original sale but if it keeps paying you, than you really need to think about what this could mean for your income in a year. This is a decision you will have to make for yourself, but you should be aware of how the pay plan works and fully understand it.

I am going to try to give you the basic structure of an affiliate marketing plan. The plans themselves can have a lot of variation as far as the actual pay and the way they are set-up so I think I will use an example to help make this a little clearer. Let’s say that XYZ Company agrees to pay you a commission on every direct sale you make of $50.00 and will pay you an override of $10.00 on all sales made by your personally sponsored recruits. With this example it is easy to see that you can make a nice check just by selling yourself, but if you can get some more people selling and keep selling yourself, your income is going to skyrocket.

Now, Traditional marketing this is one of the hardest and most expensive methods of marketing in my personal opinion. This would include all the traditional forms of sales including the ever so famous “Door to Door” salesmen. I myself have had more than my fair share of this method and let me tell you it is not easy or even all that much fun. Then from there you could do the phone sales if you do not mind the “no-call list” and again I can call on personal experience to tell you this is no fun and not always productive. There is also the traditional advertising media, newspaper, television & radio I can not say I have had much experience with any of these as I could not afford it. However, I am sure that there are many, many people and companies in this world that have made their fortunes using these traditional methods of marketing and there will continue to be fortunes made by using these methods. The real trick to any marketing plan is the ability to continue with it until you get the results that you were looking for and you’re complete understanding of the law of large numbers. I must apologize to anyone that thinks this sounds one sided but as an insurance agent these traditional methods do not hold many warm feelings for me.
