Personal Salvation During the Coming Economic Chaos – Part 5

A person may believe that he embraces the philosophy of rational selfishness—but still not have control of his thoughts, feelings and emotions. Because of this he acts in an irrationally selfish manner—especially when presented with unpleasant circumstances.

I guarantee that the coming economic chaos will bring out the worst in many people. Jealousy, envy, anger, hate, revenge, covetousness and despair will be plentiful. The misery index soars to the stratosphere. You certainly don’t want to be among the members of this crowd. If you desire the life of the rationally selfish—you must have control over your thoughts, feelings and emotions. You act as a rationally selfish individual acts. You discover personal salvation.

A Daily Affair

How do you feel when you awake in the morning? Do you experience positive thoughts and emotions? Are you energetic—ready to take on the challenges life presents you? Do you have desires, plans and goals that fire up your enthusiasm? Are you ready and committed to taking purposeful action to accomplish what it is you desire? Do you experience the joy of your existence throughout the day? Do you have some Libertarian Pleasures to look forward to?

If you answered yes to the above questions then you are in control of your thoughts, feelings, emotions and actions. You generate positive energy and attract the things and circumstances you need to succeed. Life is a wondrous adventure. You experience pleasure and ecstasy whether the economy is experiencing good times or bad times.

A Recipe for Personal Misery

Sadly, many people wake up in the morning suffering from the overwhelm of negative thoughts, feelings and emotions. Can you imagine how difficult it is for them to become motivated into taking any kind of productive action? They are generating so much negative energy— that even if they manage to pull themselves out of bed—they attract negative people and circumstances—therefore depleting the miniscule amount of positive energy they did possess. By time nightfall arrives, they are extremely tired and they feel the despair caused by their daily whipping. Their only solace is sleep—that is if they don’t suffer from insomnia.

What happens to these people during the coming economic crisis is difficult to envision. Do they escape their pain by indulging in irrationally selfish acts? There are always drugs, excessive alcohol consumption, hours upon hours in front of the television set, over-sleeping—that is if sleep is possible. Maybe exploding into destructive, abusive anger towards others temporarily relieves their suffering.

Of course, ruining your body, mind and spirit and shattering your relationships probably won’t help you experience the joy of your existence. And you definitely won’t survive the coming economic chaos.

The Joy of Your Existence

It is possible to experience the joy of your existence—no matter what is happening around you. Obviously the better control you have over your thoughts, feelings and emotions—and the more effective you are at taking purposive action—the less likely negative events will surround you. Generating positive energy attracts positive people and events. Like attracts like. Generating negative energy attracts—well—negative people and unfortunate circumstances.

The rationally selfish individual understands that his mind is his most powerful weapon in overcoming blocks, obstacles and challenges. He wouldn’t dream of weakening it by indulging in irrationally selfish actions. And he definitely wouldn’t pollute it with the anti-life philosophy of altruism.

You may be thinking that the life of the rationally selfish is the life for you. Experiencing the joy of your existence and enjoying Libertarian pleasures is the way life is supposed to be. However—how do I get there?

In Part 6 I will reveal a few secrets of how to achieve the joyous existence of the rationally selfish. Many people, including some Objectivists, may be surprised.
